We are witnesses of an evolution that came in the form of AI-powered plugins and features. Over the past year, there’s been a rapid increase in plugins and services offering AI capabilities to orchestrate and optimize various workflows as content creation, SEO, user engagement.
Recognising this trend, the WordPress project even formed a new AI Team in 2025 to guide integration best practices. Their mission is to build foundational blocks for AI in WordPress, focusing on plugins and libraries rather than core integration.
AI Services plugin was introduced to offer a unified API layer for multiple AI providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.), making it easier and more secure for developers to use models mentioned above.
All this comes with new challenges that all of us have to be aware of, like:
– API Authentication & Security
– Prompt Design and Context
– Cost Management
– Performance & Asynchronous Processing
– Fallback Behavior and Errors
– AI Content Transparency & Ethical LLM
– Server-Side vs Client-Side AI
This talk should serve as a building ground, and starting point for anyone who is looking to come on board with LLMs how to do it in smart, safe and ethical fashion.
